So here we are with the list of most disease resistant animals . Animals with strongest immune system. Read to know what makes them resistant to diseases and in what way humans use their speciality.

1. Ostrich

Ostriches are one of the oldeset species on Earth. Ostriches has survived and evolved with one of the strongest immune system in animal kingdom. During the avian flu outbreak that killed over hundreds of bird species, the ostrich was almost untouched by the virus, proving that Ostrich have strong immune system.

Ostriches are one of the heaviest and largest birds , somewhat 2.5m tall and of a significant weight upto 145kg , makes it unable to fly. They are equipped with long , muscular legs for running . They can sprint with a speed of 70km/h and can run with a steady speed of 50km/h .

Ostriches have a long reproductive life, laying 100 ginormous eggs per year for as many as 55 years making it possible to mass manufacture natural antibodies at a much lower cost than with other techniques. The antibodies produced naturally in the ostriches possess a high quality and has many advantages over traditional antibodies derived from animals with a weaker immune system. Ostriches strong immune systems make them highly resistant to viral infections. Japanese researchers have discovered how to mass produce natural ostrich antibodies that are effective against influenza, avian flu, MERS, Zika and even the Ebola virus.
Ostrich antibodies are also used in beauty products .

2. Shark

Sharks have an awesome healing power. They don't get cancer very often . And are resistant to infections. The proteins that make up shark skin also inhibit the growth of bacteria.

"How the shark immune system works could have great implications for human health problems, such as wound healing" said Shivji, who directs NSU's Save Our Seas Shark Research Center and the Guy Harvey Research Institute.

Sharks fall into a subclass of fish called elasmobranchii. Species in this subclass have skeletons made from cartilage, not bone, and have five to seven gill slits on each side of their heads. Sharks have diversified into over 500 species. They range in size from the small dwarf lanternshark, a deep sea species of only 17 centimetres in length, to the whale shark, the largest fish in the world, which reaches approximately 12 metres in length.

In 2013 dolphins got infected by morbilavirus . This disease supresses thier immune system . But no such major effect was seen in sharks , which shows sharks have strong immune system .

It was found that , shark skin has denticals (little teeth like structure), which resist bacteria from adhering to shark's skin and prevent them from bacterial infection.

And also Shark liver has a compound called squalamine that has antiviral and antibacterial properties.

Many other parts of the shark have been used for pharmaceutical purposes, such as ovaries, brain, skin and stomach. Shark is used as ingredient in tanning lotions. Shark liver oil is used in cosmetics and skin healing products.

3. Alligator

Alligators can withstand high level of radition. They have a prolonged lifespan of upto 100 years without developing cancer which shows they are resistant to diseases.

Alligators even after living in polluted environment , having voilent fights with wounds rarely gets infected, intake rotten meat or germ infested things , survive because of thier strong immune system.

Chemists in Louisiana found that blood from the American alligator can successfully destroy 23 strains of bacteria, including strains known to be resistant to antibiotics.

An average adult American alligator's weight and length is 360 kg (790 lb) and 4 m (13 ft). The largest ever recorded, found in Louisiana, measured 5.84 m. Alligators are native to only the United States, Mexico, and China. During the breeding season, the female builds a mound nest of detritus and vegetation in which she buries about 20 to 70 hard-shelled eggs.

Alligators are raised commercially for their meat and their skin, which when tanned is used for the manufacture of luggage, handbags, shoes, belts, and other leather items.

4. Bat

Bats host numerous viruses, such as Nipah virus, Ebola virus, and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) coronaviruses and still live long. The bats themselves, however, don't often get sick as they have impressive immune systems unlike those of any other mammals.

"The bottom line is that bats are potentially special when it comes to hosting viruses," says disease ecologist Mike Boots from UC Berkeley.

Bats can be infected with pathogens and still do not show any disease symptoms, but getting infected with pathogens can kill humans.

Bats are mammals of the order Chiroptera. With their forelimbs adapted as wings, they are the only mammals capable of true and sustained flight. When not flying, bats hang upside down from their feet, a posture known as roosting.

Bats are consumed for their meat in several regions, including Oceania, Australia, Southeast Asia, China, and West and Central Africa

Bats play an important role in many environments around the world. Some plants depend partly or wholly on bats to pollinate their flowers or spread their seeds, while other bats also help control pests by eating insects
